Why Goal Setting is the Worst Strategy for Stressed Moms

… And What to Do Instead

I get it, you want to feel organized, efficient, making the best out of the limited time you have. And there are lots of productivity coaches out there who offer tons of productivity tips, and goal-setting strategies to turn you into an even more efficient machine.

But trying to squeeze in as many tasks as possible makes you:

  • push harder,
  • sacrifice more of your limited energy,
  • and it wears out your patience by the end of the day. (Sometimes it feels like you have none already in the morning…)

It makes you more stressed, frustrated, and resentful as you hit those bumps along the road that slow you down because you can’t control and schedule when your kids can get sick, or when your freezer goes on strike…

You might even start thinking about your family (your kids!) as bumpers that stand between you and your goals, desires, and success.

So What Can You Do Instead…?

Do you want to keep running your household, homeschool/work/run your business, and manage to schedule some me-time on your calendar without feeling harassed and stressed by the load of it all?

“Instead of focusing so much on a to-do list,

I’m starting a to-be list.

Things I want to be:

Happy

Calm

Loving

Healthy

Awesome

~ Nanea Hoffman

I love this quote because it elegantly simplifies the core of what my own healing journey has been.

If you showed it to me 10 years ago, I’d probably smile politely but roll my eyes in my mind…

That’s NOT what I wanted to hear. I really wanted to know how to HAVE IT ALL!

But the thing was that I DID have it all. At least all that mattered the most, but I didn’t see it. I was so busy DOING that I forgot to BE. To enjoy all I already had, to celebrate all I already achieved and how far I got…

And I bet that if you looked back at your last 5-10 years, there would be A LOT to be proud of, celebrate, and be grateful for.

So today, more than ever, I invite you to BE.

Our US mamas are celebrating Thanksgiving, and it’s a great reminder for all of us.

Your family cares more about you being happy and really connected with them, they want to be seen, heard, and loved. The same way as you wanted to feel heard, seen, loved, and appreciated by your parents and loved ones when you were little. Remember?

They need that more than a sparkling clean house, a cooked-from-scratch elaborate menu that took you hours to prepare. (And if they do need those extras, then come on board guys, and make it happen!)

You being ok is the best blessing you can give to your family.

So who do you want to be?

How do you want to show up for you, and your family today?

Happy Thanksgiving today and every day,
